The qualification of specialists was the focus of the framework programme of the DWA at the IFAT India, which took place from 28 to 30 September 2016 in Mumbai. 

18 teams from Germany and abroad took part in the first ever World University Challenge which was held by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA). 

For the first time at the Open German Championship in wastewater engineering held by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), the wastewater treatment plant and sewer professionals and trainees from the sector competing for the cup also included two all-female teams.

Nearly 30 teams took up in the third Open German Championship in wastewater engineering in Munich. 18 teams took part in the first World University Challenge to be held.
