DWA strongly represented at the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL

Technical contributions, services, exhibition stand and promotion of young professionals

Hennef. From 23 to 26 April 2013, the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) will be making numerous contributions to the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL, which focusses this time on the water and wastewater markets in Eastern Europe. The trade fair is flanked by a congress and other events.

The congress, which is being held this year under the motto “Innovative concepts, measures and technologies for future-oriented water management” is organised by the DWA and other professional associations of the water industry. In lectures and discussions, on 24 and 25 April, experts from research, industry and politics will provide information first-hand and the opportunity to exchange ideas in the context of the conference programme. The four forums illuminate “adaptation strategies to climate change - water quantity and water quality”, “drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, industrial waste water”, “operation and maintenance of the infrastructure in water and wastewater disposal” and the “management of companies”.

Participation in the conference is subject to a charge and requires previous registration via the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL.

Bürgermeistertag (Mayors’ Convention) – information for municipalities

For the first time, together with the Kommunaler Unternehmen e. V. (German association of local utilities - VKU) and further central municipal associations, the DWA is organising the Bürgermeistertag within the framework of the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL. On 23 April, the visiting public is to be presented citizen-oriented services in the water sector in two discussion forums. With the presentation of the flood pass, flood audit and flood risk management, the DWA provides information on its local flood prevention services. Further DWA priorities include the performance and energy consumption of municipal wastewater treatment plants and the subject of benchmarking for municipalities.

Participation in the Bürgermeistertag is subject to a charge and requires previous registration via the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL.

International forum – experts exchange ideas

Parallel to the congress, the international forum is being held under the direction of the DWA. Experts from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (German federal environmental foundation - DBU), the German Chamber of Commerce (AHK), the Deutsche Wasserhistorische Gesellschaft (German water historical society - DWhG), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (society for international cooperation - GIZ), the German Water Partnership (GWP) and the United Nations (UNW-DCP/UNESCO-UNEVOC) are to discuss the water market in the Arab region and trends in the water industry in South-East Europe and Belarus. Further items on the agenda include the risk management of new pollutants and pathogens, the use of geographic information systems, progress in “capacity development”, rules and regulations in international water management and lessons from the past.

The participation in the international forum is free for visitors. The lectures will be simultaneously translated German-English and English-German.

Young water professionals’ programme: network for young engineers

For the twelfth time, the DWA is organising the “young water professionals’ programme” (YWP), an exchange and development programme for young engineers, scientists and students from home and abroad up to the age of thirty-five. The programme offers fifty young water professionals the opportunity to get to know German companies and to familiarise themselves with German water engineering know-how.

YWP conference: focus on young professionals

Within the framework of the young water professionals’ programme, the DWA is holding the first “young water professionals’ conference”. The English language event held by young engineers for young engineers from Germany and abroad bears the title “Household water treatment and safe storage” and is to be held on 26 April in cooperation with the Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (ITT) at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Young engineers will have the opportunity to present and discuss interesting topics here.

YWP lounge: meeting place, exchange and information

In the young water professionals’ lounge, the participants of the young water professionals’ programme, DWA young members and former programme participants have the opportunity to make contacts and find out about job opportunities on a job portal set up especially. In addition, a career day is planned for 24 April, at which companies are to introduce themselves and present career opportunities within their organisations.

Admission to the YWP lounge in hall 6.3 is free of charge, but requires prior registration.

Joint stand: DWA presentation and co-exhibitors

At the DWA joint stand, trade fair visitors can find out all about DWA publications, the DWA training, the test procedure offered by the DWA Technical Safety Management (TSM) and DWA membership. The stand provides opportunities for intensive discussions, contact and mediation.

Alongside the DWA, thirteen member companies are to present themselves at the DWA stand with new products and services from different sectors of the water industry. The DWA joint stand has the number 313 and is located in Hall 3.2.

Free trade fair ticket for DWA members

On request, DWA members receive free admission for one day of the fair (not for the congress).

The WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL 2013 is held on the grounds of the Messe Berlin, south main entrance, in the halls 1 to 6, Messedamm 22, 14055 Berlin.
