EXPOTRAIN: Safe and sustainable management of biogas facilities at WWTP

On demand

Safe and sustainable management of biogas facilities at WWTP - Worldwide adaptable criteria according to German technical rules and standards is a strictly technical training about engineering principles, design methods and technical standards for the process stages of activated sludge treatment. Practice and exercise are part of the content.

The EXPOTRAIN concept works according to modern learning methods, thanks to extensive support by research and consultancies in the didactical development process of this training offer.

Learning Goals

Participants will work towards improving the management of biogas plants in WWTPs under locally adapted technological conditions for gas production and utilisation.

MODULE A:
Components of a WWTP energy systems and energy balancing

  • Participants explain the status and potential for improvement of their own WWTP within the energy system of biogas production and utilisation

MODULE B:
Process engineering of anaerobic digestion

  • Participants describe the core processes and key components of biogas production. They discuss operating strategies and troubleshooting methods for sewage sludge digestion

MODULE C:
Hazardous gases and EX zones, gas warning devices and national regulations

  • Participants deal with risks in explosion protection zones and when handling hazardous gases in sewage treatment plants. They gain routine in risk assessment and in taking precautions in theory and practice

MODULE D:
Quality management of biogas, storage and optimisation of CHP operation

  • Participants describe the core processes, key components and analysis methods of the energy utilisation system in WWTPs. They understand their scope for action in operating the WWTP energy cycle and identify optimisation measures, taking gas quality criteria into account

Target group

  • Water professionals from engineering offices
  • Municipal water operators, regulators and universities
  • Planning and designing engineers
  • Operating managers and technical decision makers in the field of wastewater

Pre qualification

  • Knowledge of national construction, design approaches
  • Active understanding of the English language
