The Technical Safety Management is a self-control instrument for the management of water and waste water companies regarding the terms of technical qualifi cation and organization such as operation and maintenance and OHS. A catalogue of technical inquiries based on the technical rules and standards is the basis for the self-evaluation of the management. With the successful completion of a TSM examination a company ensures that all legal and technical requirements are met. TSM helps to avoid the violation of organizational obligations. Defi cits in view of technique, organisation and personnel may be uncovered, reviewed and removed and the company‘s performance will increase.

TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN THE WATER SECTOR
GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) has published a study "TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN THE WATER SECTOR" in Nov. 2017. Rüdiger Heidebrecht, head of DWA's Department of Education and International Cooperation, is one of the authors of this study. The study focuses on drinking water supply and sanitation in households, in enterprises and the industry. It examined a few GIZ projects at the interface between water and (Technical and vocational education and training) TVET. Furthermore the study makes a few overarching recommendations based on its review of the labour market, approaches and lessons learned in development cooperation projects. This work was carried out with partners, often on an individual basis or at local level. The content ranges from customised training for operators to introducing systematic vocational training approaches. The target groups of this study are the BMZ instructors, employees in the vocational training and water projects as well as German and international experts. The study should help to establish a common understanding of the two sectors and to promote communication between them. .
