WorldSkills Special Edition 2022

Pandemic challenge accepted

From October 4 to 7, 2022, Skill #55 Water Technology took place at the WorldSkills International World Championships. These were originally planned to be held in Shanghai and had already been postponed from 2021 to 2022. As Shanghai was once again out of the question as a competition venue, the WorldSkills Special Edition was launched and the skill took place as part of the MOTEK trade fair in Stuttgart. Seven teams from around the world competed against each other and emphasized the skill's slogan “Water is life” with their above-average results. Germany was represented at short notice by trainee Luca Hoheisel from Bonn, as our candidate Maren Nagel from Cologne unfortunately had to withdraw at short notice due to health reasons. Without any prior training or preparation, Luca scored an impressive 676 points on the 700-point scale. He can therefore be proud of his achievement. To participate at such short notice in such an extensive and challenging competition lasting several days and to deliver such a performance shows great enthusiasm for the profession and the tasks it entails. A big thank you goes to the city of Bonn and Mr. Achim Höcherl for giving Luca time off at such short notice.

In December, our Federal Chancellor welcomed the entire WorldSkills national team to conclude the event.
