IFAT Africa once again succeeded!

Facts & Figures

IFAT Africa is the leading environmental technology trade fair in sub-Saharan Africa focusing on water, sewage, waste and recycling. The biennial event took place from July 9 until 11, 2019 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg South Africa and welcomed 172 exhibitors. This means an increase of 13 percent to the event in 2017. The international participation was great: 19 companies from different nations came to South Africa for this big event. The number of visitors was also amazing: 3,302 visitors attended the fair this year. This means an growth of 83 percent!

Technical Scienftific Programme

„How can environmental technologies support achieving the Sustainable Development Goals?" was the opening panel discussion by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). At the beginning of the session „New Approaches in Watermanagement", DWA and Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) had signed a memorandum of understanding, which seals the cooperation of both associations, especially in the preparation of trade fair events.

German Pavilion

At the German Pavilion, DWA informed the visitors on all inquiries concerning environmental issues. 18 German exhibitors presented themselves at the joint booth and were very pleased with the expert audience.

University Challenge Africa

According the technical program DWA organised for the second time the DWA-University Challenge. The tasks were held in the two disciplines "IWRM - Integrated Water Resources Management" and "Reporting". Five university teams competed against each other and proved their skills and knowledge during the tasks. The team from University of Pretoria won the competition and were invited to the World University Challenge and the Young Water Professions programm at IFAT Munich/ Germany, which is going to be held from May 4-8, 2020.
